We’ve been asked many times...”so what is Urge chocolates” and how did we get our start?

Fair enough question, so here’s the answer.

It started with a wine tour in the Okanagan, British Columbia's wine country. My wife and I had been going there for several years, of course we have a few favorites but one is by far a regular “must” stop for us. On this one particular trip, we entered the tasting room. A cool escape from the summer heat surrounded by wine. Happy us. Ice wine was somewhat new to us and of course on the sampling list, they served it to us in a little chocolate cup, it was a memorable moment as we nibbled our cup down to nothing. Back in the city we served our new discovery to friends and family after dinners, they loved it and a new tradition was born.

Year after year the chocolate cups got harder to find until we couldn’t. Me being the curious type, I decided to try my hand at making them. Couldn’t be that hard I right? Starting out knowing little to nothing I found it fun and intriguing learning how to make things out of chocolate, it was cool. It also captured my creative side, thinking outside the box of things I could create? Being a foody it was a great new avenue of exploration, new tastes, recipes and techniques. I got experiment with food at a whole new level, and a tasty one at that. The biggest surprise for me with chocolate was finding out just how much of a science it is. You also have to have patience and a lot of it.

The real beauty of working with chocolate is you can never fail, you can always re-melt and try again, if it goes really south, you inevitably learn something and that’s a good thing. The other beautiful things about chocolate is friends and family love to hate me for always asking them to taste something new, but funnily no one ever said “no”.

There is where it began, the coles notes version.

The path I stumbled across is now what I do and I love it. It’s not every day you meet a chocolatier, it’s kinda cool to be one and following a dream.

I truly hope you enjoy all of our creations.

Cheers,
